RTN Federal Credit Union sponsors ‘Walk Home’ 5K walk for the homeless

RTN Federal Credit Union will sponsor 'Walk Home,' a 5K walk for the homeless, at three different locations on Saturday, June 1, 2013.  The three 'Walk Home' 5K routes (approximately three miles) have been established in communities with RTN branches: Greater Boston Walk Home (Dorchester Park); MetroWest Walk Home (Waltham Common); and North Shore Walk Home (Danvers Rail Trail).

The funds raised will support the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.  This year the Coalition’s theme is “Rising to the Top,” which represents an effort aimed at helping families and individuals rise out of poverty, with a particular emphasis on helping homeless teenagers.

“RTN has a long and deep relationship with the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, which is one of our employer sponsor groups,” says Nicole James, RTN’s senior vice president of retail services, and chair of the Massachusetts Credit Union League’s Social Responsibility Committee.  “Our credit union has donated $100,000 to the Coalition during the past ten years.  'Walk Home' demonstrates our institution’s ongoing commitment to support the Coalition and the important work it does to advocate for and support individuals and families in the Commonwealth who experience homelessness.”

The walks will be held rain or shine, and will begin at 9:00 a.m.  Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.  Those interested in walking, donating, or volunteering to help the thousands of homeless teens and kids in Massachusetts can visit: Walk Home.
