Paul Gentile begins work as President of Massachusetts Credit Union League

Paul Gentile’s tenure began this week as the new president/CEO of the Massachusetts Credit Union League.  Already, Gentile has been out visiting with credit union CEOs and made his first visit to the Massachusetts State House on a bill related to investment authority for state-chartered credit unions.

“The credit unions of Massachusetts have played a unique and tremendously important role in the history of the credit union movement and I am very excited about playing a part in making sure that we play an equally important role in the future of the movement.” stated Gentile.  He noted that he will spend a lot of time in the early days getting to know the issues that are most important to Massachusetts credit unions.

Gentile has been a part of the credit union movement for eighteen years.  Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President of Strategic Communications for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).  During Gentile’s tenure at CUNA, he helped launch a number of new, national communication vehicles, including The Cheney Report and Inside Exchange.

Prior to CUNA, Gentile was the President/CEO of the New Jersey Credit Union League (NJCUL).  Under his leadership, NJCUL spearheaded cooperative advocacy initiatives such as the statewide “Banking You Can Trust” consumer awareness campaign and successful passage of public deposit legislation that enabled New Jersey’s credit unions to accept public funds for the first time in their history.  NJCUL also developed a student loan CUSO, a shared compliance program, and an array of strategic communication tools.  Before joining NJCUL, Gentile was the Editor/Publisher of Credit Union Times, the nation’s largest independent credit union trade publication.
